The miaohui is an occasion for praying and much public display from neighboring villages. In this first photo we see the arrival of the most spectacular group.
The gods are here for those who wish to pray, especially if you are concerned to bring rain in a timely fashion.
Arrival of a village group with food for the gods
And yet another arriving group with food and much noise.
More food and even more noise
In the foreground you see the welcoming dances of Nanzhuang doing their little figure 8 movements as the lead the arriving group toward the gods.
Noise and celebration
Another well-dressed group
A most interesting thing; This is one of two men who danced alone while singing a familiar song (others sang along from the audience). It is obviously very traditional, but I know nothing about it.
Here is my assistant, Duan Jinxiang interviewing some people during the miaohui. On this occasion many men wear the Mao clothing.
