1. I understand that I am applying for a 50% time TA appointment, involving a
commitment of 220 hours of assigned workload during the 11-week academic term,
including Finals Week and subsequent grading. I understand that I will not
be eligible for additional on-campus employment while employed as a TA.
I realize my assignment will require me to be on campus on multiple days each
week during the appointment quarter.
2. I understand that TA appointments are contingent on: a) satisfactory student
academic progress; b) good standing in my home department/program, as determined
by the faculty, and at School-level in the Graduate Affairs Office; and c) adherence
to the campus code of student conduct: www.gradstudies.socsci.uci.edu/index.php .
3. I understand that Teaching Assistants must be enrolled in at least 12 units
of course work, research or University Teaching while employed, and pay student
fees/tuition not later than Thursday, March 15, 2018 for the Spring 2018
academic term. I may be responsible for paying a portion of my in-state tuition
fees myself; it is my responsibility to check that my fees are paid in full
before the registration deadline each quarter. Fees that remain unpaid, in full
or in part after the payment deadline, may accrue late charges that cannot be
waived in the School's Graduate Office or elsewhere on campus.
4. I understand that at least 12 units of graduate-level course or research
credit must have been completed during each of the last three quarters of
enrollment (except in cases of approved part-time study or filing fee status).
5. I understand that enrollment in SocSci 399 *University Teaching* is a
requirement for Social Science TAs during every appointment quarter in the School.

6. I understand that letter grades of S, or B or better are required in all
courses and research sections--including Soc Sci 399 *University Teaching*--
completed during the last three quarters of enrollment. An Unsatisfactory (U)
grade, or letter grade below B on the transcript may make me ineligible for
TA appointment in the quarter immediately following, or later in my program.

7. I understand that UCI Teaching Assistants must maintain a minimum cumulative
grade point average of 3.1, and an equivalent minimum GPA in each of the last
three quarters of enrollment.
8. I understand that Teaching Assistants may not have more than two Incomplete
(I) grades on the transcript during the three most recent enrollment quarters.
9. I understand that graduate students who have not advanced to candidacy for
the PhD may not be employed for more than 12 quarters as a Teaching Assistant
or Teaching Associate. Upon advancement, the student is eligible for additional
appointments until the 18-quarter TA limit is reached. (In no case will TA
employment be approved beyond 18 quarters.)
10. I understand that I will be ineligible for a TA appointment
if I do not meet the above conditions of employment before Thursday, March 15, 2018,
the Spring quarter 2018 registration deadline. If I have not met the above conditions on
Wednesday March 28, 2018 (the first day of the Spring 2018 quarter), my appointment in the campus payroll/personnel
system will be cancelled, and I will be responsible for having my in-state tuition
fees paid through alternative funding sources.
11. I
understand that every effort will be made to place
me in one of my 10 preferred course selections in the Spring 2018
quarter. I also understand that the instructional needs of the School
and
the departments are such that I cannot be guaranteed a specific TA
assignment; and I may be assigned to a course that is not on my top-10
preferences list this quarter. I realize that to accomplish this, a) my
application data and course preferences may be shared with faculty in
my home department; b) I may be required to adjust my Spring 2018 study
schedule following the Thursday, March 15, 2018 registration deadline;
and c) my initial TA assignment may be changed with that of another
assigned TA before or during Week 1.
12. I understand and accept the conditions of employment
listed above; I am in compliance academically and otherwise for TA appointment in the
Spring 2018 quarter.
