Participate Cognitive Neuroscience of Language Lab We have several projects in progress currently - details of participation vary on each. Participation involves testing your child's sound and language processing abilities using a combination of non-invasive, completely safe research techniques. 1. One or two sessions are conducted at the UCI campus, where we will evaluate your child's hearing function, sound perception, and non-invasively evaluate the subcortical auditory (sound) processing system. Each session lasts approximately one hour and your child will be compensated $25 for each session. 2. One or two sessions are conducted at the Magnetic Source Imaging (MSI) Laboratory located at Scripps Clinic in La Jolla, California, located approximately 75 miles south of the UCI campus. At the MSI lab, we will record your child's cortical sound processing responses using a state-of-the-art neuroimaging technique called Magnetoencephalography (MEG). MEG is entirely safe and non-invasive, requiring no sedation or injections of any kind. Your child will lay on a comfortable bed with pillow and blankets and watch a self-selected movie while we record his/her brain responses to a variety of types of sounds (tone beeps, speech syllables). Each session lasts approximately two hours and your child will be compensated $50 for each session.
Eligibility is as follows: Participants will be compensated $25 for each session held on the UCI campus and $50 for each session held at the MSI lab, La Jolla.
